Supercapacitors (ultracapacitors) are energy storage devices that store and release energy electrostatically, enabling very fast charging and discharging and high power output compared to traditional batteries. While they have lower energy storage capacity, they offer extremely long life cycles and high efficiency for repeated use.

Common applications include regenerative braking in electric vehicles, backup and ride-through power for electronics and industrial systems, power smoothing in power supplies, and energy capture in IoT or energy-harvesting devices.
