Texas Instruments LP5890 48x16 LED Matrix Drivers

Texas Instruments LP5890 48x16 LED Matrix Drivers are highly integrated common cathode matrix LED display drivers with built-in SRAM to support 1 to 32 multiplexing. These drivers support separated power supplies for the red, green, and blue LEDs by the common cathode structure to achieve low power consumption. The LP5890 drivers implement a high-speed transmission interface to support a high device count daisy-chained and high refresh rate while reducing Electrical Magnetic Interference (EMI).

The LP5890 drivers feature low grayscale enhancement, 16 scan line switches with 190mΩ RDS(ON), 48-current source channels from 0.2mA to 20mA, and low EMI Continuous Clock Series Interface (CCSI). These drivers are used in LED digital signage, keyboards, smart speakers, audio mixers, wireless and wired speakers, and gaming accessories.

  • 48-current source channels from 0.2mA to 20mA:
    • 0.5% (typical), ±2% (maximum) channel-to-channel accuracy
    • ±0.5% (typical), ±2% (maximum) device-to-device accuracy
    • 0.26V (maximum) low knee voltage when IOUT = 5mA
    • 3-bit (8 steps) global brightness control
    • 8-bit (256 steps) color brightness control
    • Maximum 16-bit (65536 steps) PWM grayscale control
  • Ultra-low power consumption:
    • Independent VCC down to 2.5V
    • Low ICC down to 3.9mA with 50MHz GCLK
    • Intelligent power-saving mode
  • Built-in SRAM to support 1 to 32 multiplexing:
    • Single device drives up to 16 x 48 LEDs or 16 x 16 RGB LEDs
    • Dual devices stackable drive up to 32 x 96 LEDs or 32 x 32 RGB LEDs
  • High speed and low EMI Continuous Clock Series Interface (CCSI):
    • SCLK/SIN/SOUT wires
    • External 50MHz (maximum) SCLK
    • Internal frequency multiplier to support GCLK range from 40MHz to 160MHz
  • 16 scan line switches with 190mΩ RDS(ON)

    • Low grayscale enhancement
    • Upside and downside ghosting removal
    • LED open, short, and weal short detection and removal
