Texas Instruments LMG342X-BB-EVM Evaluation Module (EVM)

Texas Instruments LMG342X-BB-EVM Evaluation Module (EVM) is an easy-to-use breakout board to configure any of the LMG342xR0x0 half-bridge boards, such as the LMG3422EVM-043, as a synchronous buck converter. This evaluation module allows quick measurements of gallium nitride (GaN) device switching by providing a power stage, bias power, and logic circuitry. This evaluation module can deliver up to 12A of output current with adequate thermal management (low-frequency operation, forced air, etc.) to ensure the maximum operating temperature is not exceeded. The Texas Instruments LMG342X-BB-EVM is unsuitable for transient measurements since it is an open loop board.

With complementary pulse width modulated signals, only a single pulse width modulated input is required, and corresponding dead time is generated on board. Probe points are provided for key logic and power stage waveforms to be measured with oscilloscope probes with short ground springs.

Features

  • Simple open loop design to evaluate the performance of LMG342xR0xx, LMG352xR0xx
  • Single or dual PWM input onboard for PWM signal with variable dead time
  • Input voltage operates up to 650V
  • Convenient probe points for logic and power stage measurements with oscilloscope probes that have short ground spring probes

Required Equipment

  • DC Voltage Source
    • Capable of supplying the input of the evaluation module up to 480V
  • DC Bias Source
    • Capable of 12V output up to 1.5A
  • Function Generator
    • Capable of 0V to 5V square wave output with adjustable duty cycle and frequency in the operating range
    • TI recommends operating the LMG342XEVM-04X and motherboards with a switching frequency between 50kHz and 200kHz in hard-switching converters
  • Oscilloscope
    • Capable of at least 200MHz operation
    • A 1GHz or greater oscilloscope and probes with short ground springs are required for accurate measurements
  • DC Multimeter(s)
    • Capable of 600V measurement, suitable for determining operation and efficiency (if desired)
  • DC Load
    • Capable of 600V operation at up to 20A in current-mode operation
  • Fan
    • For the heatsink-version evaluation module daughter card, a dedicated cooling fan is attached to the back side of the heatsink
    • Please make sure the fan is powered by the 12V power supply before the test
