Microchip Technology PIC32MK Motor Control (MCA) Microcontrollers combine 32-bit, 120Mhz performance with up to 1MB of ECC-protected Flash memory and a rich peripheral set targeting motor control applications. The devices include a hardware Floating Point Unit (FPU) for efficient and precise execution of floating point operations. Advanced analog features include 12-bit Analog-to-Digital (ADC) modules, fast-response comparators, high-bandwidth op-amps, and 12-bit Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC) modules. This family of MCUs also integrates Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) and Quadrature Encoder Interface (QEI) peripherals, ideal for motor control applications.The PIC32MK MCA MCUs also include low-power management modes, integrated audio, graphics, and touch interfaces, and security features. These devices can be used to develop a variety of motor control applications, including Brushless DC (BLDC) 6-step scalar control, advanced sensorless Field Oriented Control (FOC), and sensored FOC for precision positioning applications.
To accelerate the design cycle, Microchip Technology offers a complete ecosystem of development resources that includes:
- Evaluation boards and easy-to-use software with ready-to-use application examples
- The free-to-use MPLAB® Harmony v3 embedded software development framework that runs in MPLAB X Integrated Development Environment (IDE)
- Model-based design tools like MATLAB®, Simulink®, Scilab®, and X2C, which can generate efficient code that can be directly programmed into the MCU for rapid prototyping of motor control design
- MPLAB Mindi™ Analog Simulator to simulate the response of the high-bandwidth op amps and comparators
