Microchip Technology PCI11101C Single-Chip PCIe Switches
Microchip Technology PCI11101C Single-Chip PCIe Switches integrate a USB 3.2 Gen 2 host controller and programmable I/O. The Microchip PCI11101C features PCIe physical interfaces providing a 4‑lane (4×8GT/s) upstream port and a 2‑lane (2×8GT/s) downstream port, delivering up to 8GT/s to support higher‑bandwidth PCIe subsystems in embedded applications. The upstream interface can operate over one or multiple lanes for system design flexibility, and the device includes a standards‑compliant PCIe implementation from the external physical interfaces through the switch fabric and endpoint controllers. The device also supports PCIe Precision Time Measurement (PTM), as specified in PCI Express Base Specification R5.0 V1.0, enabling precise timing exchange to determine the relationship between local device clocks and the PTM Master Time domain.
The PCI11101C incorporates a USB‑IF and xHCI‑compliant USB 3.2 Gen 2 host controller that provides one USB 3.2 Gen 2 port supporting 10Gbps operation for Type‑A or Type‑C, M.2 breakout, or embedded applications. These switches also include Overcurrent Sense (OCS) and Vbus Port Control. A programmable pin multiplexer allows designers to map I/O functions to package pins using either the default configuration or custom signal routing. Supported functions range from USB‑related signals to GPIO and SMBus, which are accessed through a dedicated PCIe Endpoint Controller.
Although the device requires multiple internal clocks, all are generated by an integrated clock farm, allowing operation with only a single‑ended 25MHz external clock or crystal along with a PCIe reference clock. Standard software abstractions enable seamless support across major operating systems. The Microchip PCI11101C is offered in a 132‑pin VQFN‑DR package and available in commercial (0°C to +70°C), industrial (‑40°C to +85°C), and automotive Grade 3 (‑40°C to +85°C) temperature ranges.
