Infineon Technologies MERUS™ Audio Design Tools

Infineon Technologies MERUS™ Audio Design Tools are a portfolio of products used for MERUS Class D Audio Amplifier IC solutions. The Infineon Technologies MERUS portfolio includes evaluation kits and reference designs to support applications. MERUS Class D Audio Amplifier ICs, Multi-Chip Modules, and Discrete MOSFET/HEMT Driver ICs are also offered. A traditional class D amplifier is a switching amplifier, usually consisting of two power MOSFETs with a pulse-width-modulation (PWM) signal. An LC filter is needed for output levels >20W, increasing size and cost.

With increasing audio channels per product, traditional class D power amplifiers face design challenges in compact applications like low-power efficiency, excessive heat generation, and the need for bulky, costly filters. Infineon's multilevel class D audio amplifier circuit technology makes it possible to improve power consumption while reducing electromagnetic interference and out-of-band noise. Manufacturing costs can also be reduced by eliminating or minimizing filters, helping to save design space.
