TVS Diodes

Bourns Surface-Mount TVS Diodes are low capacitance devices that provide ESD, EFT, and surge protection for external ports of electronic devices such as cell phones, handheld electronics, and other portable electronic devices. Bourns TVS Diodes include smaller chip diodes that have the capability to provide a silicon diode with minimal packaging overhead. The chip diodes 0603, 1005, 1408, and 2010 are leadless, allowing for maximum space on PCB layouts. All Bourns diodes are RoHS compliant and meet many worldwide industry and government regulations on lead-free components. TVS package diode design kits are also available from Bourns.

Gas Discharge Tube for RS-485 Ports

Bourns Gas Discharge Tube (GDT) for RS-485 Ports is designed to meet industry standards on RS-485 port interfaces and to provide circuit protection in noisy and harsh electrical environments. For exposed lines that may see large and fast surges and where failure is not acceptable, a three-stage Bourns protection system is recommended.

SMLJ Series TVS Diodes

Bourns SMLJ Transient Voltage Suppressor (TVS) Diodes are offered for surge and ESD protection applications in compact chip package DO-214AB (SMC) size format to meet the increasing demand for smaller electronic components. The SMJL TVS series provides a working peak reverse voltage from 5V up to 170V and breakdown voltage up to 200V. Typical fast response time is less than 1ns for unidirectional devices and less than 5ns for bidirectional devices from 0V to minimum breakdown voltage. Designed with a flat configuration to minimize roll away, Bourns Chip Diodes are easy to handle with standard pick-and-place equipment. Compliant with JEDEC standards, the SMLJ TVS Diodes are well-suited for IEC 61000-4-2 ESD (Min. Level 4), IEC 61000-4-4 EFT, and IEC 61000-4-5 Surge applications.

Circuit Protection Devices

Bourns manufactures and supplies a wide range of circuit protection technologies, including fuses, PTC thermistors, varistors, GDTs, resettable thermal cut-offs, surge protection devices, hybrid protectors, discrete semiconductor solutions, and more. Reliable surge protection is a critical design consideration to help ensure operational reliability of consumer electronics, industrial/communication equipment, automotive, battery charging, energy storage infrastructure, and renewable energy harvesting ecosystems.
